The last time I moved I made a mistake that I will never make again. I decided to not to hire Chicago Movers. Instead I just asked my friends to help me move. It seemed like a good idea at the time!
I should be clear, I was moving from one small apartment in Chicago to another one. The place I was leaving was my first real place after college. When I moved in there I had very few belongings and my friends helped me, and it went fine. Most of what I did own was not very nice so it didn’t matter much if it got banged around. So that kind of setup was just what I was used to
However, in my two years living there I put my grownup income to good use and bought some nicer things. My friends were happy to help, they were very enthusiastic. They showed up early and started hauling boxes… but I noticed right away they were not being gentle with them. One friend in particular was trying to cram things into the pickup truck (not a moving truck, of course) that would NOT fit! I stopped him and took over that job myself but it was too late for some of my nicer furniture.
By the time we got everything into the new place I was on the verge of tears. These guys were still in a “hurry up and haul” mentality but I was trying to be gentle on my nice things. From now on I will hire Chicago movers!
